Wow. Some original and inspiring content. Thanks Emily. More of this please NFS.
Not happy to see smoking at a gas station encouraged by the Rolling Stones at this point. These jokers are senior citizens and they didn't get to 65 by lighting up at the gas pump. And you can count on hundreds if not thousands of copycat crimes, some of which will result in gas stations blown sky high and deaths.
Idiots.
PS. Kristen Stewart has more trash appeal than sex appeal as far as I can tell. Which is surprising as she was caught shagging at the side of the road. Alicia Vikander would be an example of a young actress with real, smouldering sex appeal.
Thanks for doing the math, jfc, that's awesome. $75K for the world's biggest market is not going to get many films made. It will probably dig up thousands of dud films from the archives though. Obscure old films are about to become a lot more accessible. As Edgar More mentioned, figuring out who has the rights to upload and be paid for these works will be extremely complex. Pirates will get rich first and then Amazon when they confiscate most earnings for themselves ("you can not adequately prove ownership of Teenage Werewolf Prom Queens").
Vimeo already did this (Vimeo on Demand) better. Screw Amazon (and I'm a Prime member).
I'm with you. After wheedling us all into buying premium CS 5.5 and CS 6 suites, along with the rights to discount upgrades within three versions, Adobe sucker punched (took us all for suckers) and rolled out subscription. Adobe has seen the last of my company's money. Subscription software is not something we will ever support (we happily pay for upgrades for non-expiring software when we feel that the upgrade adds something to our own use - we're not keen on OS compatibility upgrades scams either).
Anything but Adobe. Adobe have joined Microsoft as a banned software house at Foliovision. It's easy to get along without either these days. For photos, Iridient Digital offers curves and direct access to RAW data. FCP7 and FCPX are a nice pair for long form and for editor level fx sequences with Motion standing in the wings for more complicated FX (we don't do them).
This is a great analysis of the market Joe. Just because you have an idea doesn't mean it will be commercially viable.
It's really easy to say "should do" to others. But every product is an extra burden.
That said, I'm still deeply disappointed in Apple. I've gone from a new high end laptop every year to one every four years or so. No iPhones. Very little app store.
Apple's abandonment of the pro segment costs Apple about $10K/year of our business and lots of unmade recommendations. The weird thing is that it still works for Apple although the pro rebound will gradually be felt over the next few years (probably just starting to bite now in terms of Mac Pro sales).
Hi Brent. If you can benchmark this many lenses, you can batch upload to YouTube. It's never too late to finish the job. Or get a web agency buddy to lend a hand (I'd offer myself but I'm on the other side of the known universe - you want someone local to whom you can pass the original files).
BTW, I'd recommend putting the 4K tests up on Vimeo, as it's a more stable platform than YouTube. A pro account is just $200/year and for what you are doing here (lens tests), Vimeo would probably let you get away with just a plus account (about $50/year).
YouTube only lets publishers wrap an iframe in a player while Vimeo allows publishers to show the original stream in their own player. Far superior end user experience. More on the API's. Vimeo's API is much easier to set up and manage as well.
