Boards Comment – Camera upgrade after GH4

I have a GH4 and I can see getting tired of it and looking at the Reds, Sonys and BMs for something better. But it's small, records 4K and outputs 10-bit color. Some ideas:
-Add an Atomos to record the 10-bit
-Rent it out on KitSplit
-Sell it and rent cameras off KitSplit until you find something that works for you

Article Comment – Hackintosh 101: How to Build a 4K Editing Machine for Half the Purchase Price of a Mac

The power of the Mac is really the OS. That's what makes a Mac amazing.
The guts of the computer are made by Intel and companies that also contribute to Sony and Dell. Apple's packaging is brilliant, but comes at a huge cost. And computers are not large, loud and generate a lot of heat.
If you peruse TonyX, you'll find builds that will run the Mac OS, with specs higher than what Apple currently makes. This is no different than building a box to run Windows or buying it from Dell.

Article Comment – Hackintosh 101: How to Build a 4K Editing Machine for Half the Purchase Price of a Mac

Thanks so much for this article. I've been trolling tonyx86 for months, waiting for the Nvidia drivers to appear and since they have I've been all over this topic.
I'd like to propose that folks use pcpartpicker.com when they're trying to assemble different configurations. Tonyx86 has the parts, but pcpartpicker makes planning a lot of fun. And the machine can be used (gasp!) as a Windows machine.

Boards Comment – Media Composer: to buy or not to buy? (in my case) or FCPX?

i jump between Premiere and Avid with no issues. I just make sure the codec is the same.

Article Comment – REVIEW: Panasonic Varicam LT is a Viable Alternative to RED and Alexa

Finally! A sequel to the AF100! Not!
So glad Panasonic built a viable competitor to the REDs and Alexas and Ursas.
Even happier that they gave it an interchangeable mount; Canon lenses!
And smart to use their stable expressP2 format and not create new media.
ProRes 4K 4444? ND filters? Raw? OMG!

Well done Panasonic! You're a contender!

Boards Comment – Tisch or save our money and use for an actual movie?

Take a year off and make films on her own. Documentaries, comedies, anything. Write, direct, edit, produce, cast, etc. Look at film as an art.
Find schools that are connected to internships and apprenticeships. Sure, you can go to NY or LA, just like every one else and compete for everything. Or go somewhere that's good with a more intimate scene. Philly? Chicago? Austin?
And cheaper. Have a serious discussion about how much debt your daughter will be in when she graduates. When I graduated film school, I spent 10 years paying off my debt. I would definitely reconsider where I went to school if that was an actual thought.
