Edit with proxy (offline) and do 1-pass color correction. When you have a completed project, online (relink to original footage) and do a final color-correction.
Go ahead and shoot AVCHD, but use EditReady to easily get the footage into ProRes or DNxHD for editing. It's a great program that allows you to add metadata to your files, helping greatly for smooth editing. I convert my camera footage this way and toss the original files (which are unfriendly to editing apps due to compression).
Avid owns Protools. Avid exports XMLs that go into Resolve.
What's your beef with Avid? It's a tool used by movies and news, for 30 years.
