Best article in No Film School since, hum, a very long time. Can't wait to read the rest (well, I can wait, but not too long).
This is a ridiculous list. Not because those are not good films, most are very good, but because it looks like a list made by an american who thinks USA is the center of the world but was able, thanks to Netflix, to watch 2-3 "foreign" films between too many super heroes "movies". Stupid. In a real best films of the decade list, made by a real critic watching films from every continent, there wouldn't have more than 30-50% american films. Most films on this list didn't even have good critics, they are just liked by teenagers.
It's quite a complex theory here! In France "film d'auteur' just means that the director also wrote the script. That's it. Which is quite common in France (filmmakers sometimes work with a co-author), for good films and very bad films too.
What a stupid article.
Marvel is pure american propaganda. Nothing to do with cinema. And yes, it look more like a theme park attraction. You don't gain anything, it's just "fun".
Marvel manipulates people and keep them as dumb as possible by making films so simple that they look like being written by 5 years old kids with colorful crayons. Cinema should elevate people, at least a bit. And you can make entertainment cinema that's not completely dumb (Spielberg is a good exemple). So yes, Marvel's by fr the worst thing that ever happens to cinema. It's killing it.
I don't see the point of the title as Joker is NOT a "super-heroes movie".
It's quite impressive indeed for a phone. And IPhones are quite "cheap" in the US compared to other countries! Somebody wanting to make small travel videos on the go for instance could use that phone instead of a gopro or a small camera, to gain a little bit of room and weight.
