Boards Comment – Do I need a permit?

I used a DSLR mounted on the outside of a car in NYC on at least three gigs and never had any interest from the police / LEOs.

Boards Comment – Mics with tight pattern?

Guy, the way my head had a 180 turn about sound being more important than the picture I'll sell my lenses, my rig, and will starve myself but I'll get that CS3e :/

Mike, I struggle visualizing this. I imagine you are referring to certain settings in a certain software. Any chance you can post a screenshot of "before" and "after" of the said settings?

Boards Comment – Mics with tight pattern?

Mike, indeed, I am not looking for a zoom. I am looking for a mic that I can use in place of my current AT875r.

Its pattern is at the very end of the last page -- looks cardioidish for the 1k range to me:

It is probably my lack of skill: whenever recording exteriors 875r picks up all the traffic noises that otherwise I am hoping a shotgun would reject.
