Article Comment – Rumor No More: ARRI Reveals Their 6K 65mm Cinema Camera, the ALEXA 65

Can I please see a show of hands of how many people on this board think they'll rent this camera in 2015?

Boards Comment – Is nikon coolpix enough tool shoot movie?

Of course this is enough to start!

It is going to suck, obviously!

Or, to be more politically correct: the result would be exactly the same as if somebody handed you a $20,000 camera and you shot your first film with it.

The point is -- make your first short film and then try to figure out what it was that sucked. The best way to go about it -- post a link on the board and ask "what's wrong".

Then when making your second short you'll fix those things, you'll come back to the board, and you'll ask "what's wrong". You'll repeat that for six month shooting every week and you'll start to kick ass!

Good luck!

Boards Comment – What camera would you get if you had 5,000 dollars?

An investor will want a return on his money. If I were you I'd sit down to figure out exactly how I'm gonna do that. I bet the answer would never be: "buy a new camera".

Good luck!

Boards Comment – Tips For A First Time Director?

Also, be a professional in your demeanor. These are the things I remind myself of before the shoots:

- do not lecture the DP about cameras - they know more;

- do not lecture artists about what looks better on screen - there are more successful directors who think the opposite is true;

- every time you are chatting you are probably making an ass out of yourself - talk only when needed;

- always lend a hand to the grip/gaffer/DP - hard to explain, you'll understand why only if you spend time on a set as a grip/gaffer/dp.

- always be the first one to arrive on the set - once you start being late 15min the rest of cast and crew will be late by an hour.

Good luck!

Boards Comment – Thoughts about th new 7D MkII

As you probably know the 7D became iconic in part due to the Magic Lantern upgrade. It was the sweet spot between the 5D line and the Rebel tXi line.

Its main advantage was the insane card-write speed, twice of the Rebel cameras. Outside of that it was exactly the same as the t2I for filmmaking.

The new 7D MkII is even more meh for filmmaking given the range of options. The BMPCC alone knocks it out cold barely breaking a sweat.

Good luck!

Boards Comment – Has anyone shot with the DAF upgraded C100?

Here is a good review that includes the content shot by these guys:

http://fenchel-janisch.com/review-canon-c100-with-auto-focus-upgrade

Main point -- AF is nice, love it. But it is center point only. Sooo....

If you've been spoiled by the likes of 70D, GH4, or the A7, the no-touch screen center autofocus is going to annoy you until you give up.

If you have not yet been spoiled by the touchscreen autofocus then you'll think that what Canon offers with the C100 upgrade is the life itself. ^_^

Good luck!
