Boards Comment – SHUT THE 4K UP

Steve, on the money!

Sounds like your question is rhetorical and does not require an answer. And anyways the answer you are offer is the same I would give.

We both know that top 100 of the IMDB movies weren't shot on a 4k, and the next top 100 do not have to be.

So, stay calm and carry on!

Cheers!

Boards Comment – Gear recommendation for Indie

Archie, bro... what was the last thing you shot? Please dont be defensive and at least be honest with yourself.

There was a period in my life where I thought my equipment is gonna shoot the things for me. Then I said I just filmed a friend as she sat there smoking with the equipment I had. Then I filmed her doing yoga. Then I filmed another friend, and then I filmed a stranger.

Then people started emailing me to be a DP on their student film productions. My camera is a t2I (ML'ed), I sold all my lenses keeping 85mm f/1.8.

The only two things that matter are my lights -- 5 LEDs and a slider. Oh, and an audio kit. But see, my first productions were silent -- there was only music playing.

So, my point -- don't fall into a trap of accumulating the gear. It won't shoot for you.

Instead see what you can shoot with the gear you have.

Good luck!

Boards Comment – Ideas for a short to test new light & camera kit?

I have exactly the same theme for all my camera tests:

"a small short about a man who's date is late and then she cancels.

The spot is by Hudson - first the actor is happy anticipating the date but as the time passes he grows concerned all they way until she texts that she cant make it."

Call time is an hour before the sunset, and as the sun hits the horizon we start rolling. An hour into it you'll have pitch black night and at least 10 takes.

Good luck!

Boards Comment – Does 3rd Party APS-C lens work with the EF to M43 Metabone Speed Booster?

As long as the Rokinon is an EF mount it will work with an EF to n MFT adapter or a Speedbooster. Meaning the lens will form the image on the sensor and you'll record the picture.

However the lens might not communicate with the camera -- this depends on how good Rokinon's lenses "cracked" the Canon protocols. This is not the speedbooster issue.

Thus, if the Rokinon can communicate with an-EF mount Canon camera then it is supposed to talk to an MFT camera. But, as usual, some things might get lost in translation.

Here is the SB I am describing:

Boards Comment – LED Light

How much are these? And when we talk about outdoors - how does one juice them up? I feel when all said and done and these lights are looked at as the total solution we would discover that there are better alternatives.
