"As we're all well aware, the death of the DVD has left us in a post-cinephile age of finite streaming options and limited ways in which to access some of the best films in cinema history."
The wording here is problematic. I have a Netflix account that sends me DVDs. All of these movies are available on DVD from Netflix. Why is it just assumed that streaming is the only option anymore? Oh wait I get it, this is an ad for FilmStruck. Never mind, lolz.
Great info Guy, it amazes me how many low budget shoots I've been on where folks are using a shotgun for interior dialog when a hypercardioid would be a much better choice. Depends on the location, distance from talent, etc. of course but there are a lot of people that seem to think that a shotgun is the only mic they need for location audio. I haven't used the TakStar but I do have an Oktava MK-012 and I can say that it is an outstanding mic. It is pretty sensitive to handling noise and any wind/breeze/moving air (or moving it through the air quickly) but besides that the sound quality is exceptional. It can be had on ebay for around $200-300 with the hypercardioid capsule.
Noah Baumbach was nominated for an Oscar in 2006, does that count or only if you win? I'm confused with this whole ranking of directors...
Great interview, great films! Especially liked ‘Sold’ - I saw some uncomfortable similarities between the main character and my own behavior at times. Nice reminder to keep the ego in check and focus your energy on the important aspects of filmmaking, not all the other BS. Thanks for the article Micah and Jordan!
I'm gonna go ahead and guess Ray is asking only about a field monitor and not a monitor/recorder since he never mentions recording at all. The answer is YES, you will get a better image/resolution from the GH3 since it outputs a 1080p signal, not 480p like the T2i.
As far as buying a monitor for $300 or less, I would recommend researching monitors in the $500-600 price range online and then looking on ebay for used models. Ikan, SmallHD and Marshall are all trusted names with a range of models. I recently bought a monitor with a retail price close to $1k for $550 used. Glad I waited for it to pop up on ebay!
Would be helpful to know camera, lens, ISO, and aperture used during video.
