The "Academy" needs to get it through their thick skulls that people do NOT want to hear speeches about politics and race and inequity and so on. These are issues that are important, but are not solvable during an awards telecast. Yet, they continue to beat these to death and as an Editor of 29 years, I am out.

"Green Book" was a personal story that the kid of one of the two friends wanted to share. Dr. Shirley gave his blessings (and details about the trip) to Nick Vallelonga. You can say "well Don Shirley's family said it was a bunch of lies", and that is simply not true. Furthermore, this idea that because there are white and black characters on screen, there must be always be some bigger message about race is simply ridiculous. This is how these two specific people bonded. Period. Anything else is just a bunch of people bitching about a movie not satisfying their personal agendas. Otherwise, why should white people bother making movies with black characters in them? Seems like nothing is ever good enough. As Steven Spielberg said after making "The Color Purple", he shouldn't be telling African American stories, African Americans should be leading that charge. I suggest if you don't want "white savior" movies, then blacks should start making the movies they want to see and perhaps that a white audience might still be able to identify with??

Clearly, there is plenty of room for women and POC to find audiences for their stories, and they should be given the opportunity to do so. My question is, has Michael Moore ever put his $50 million net worth up and hired women or POC filmmakers himself? NO. Also, demeaning the folks who created the art form and then insulting everyone who is a "white male" director is absolutely not helping get them on your side. You don't want Michael Moore championing this.
