Digital definitely has taken over the lower-end Hollywood productions. But all of the blockbusters are still shot on film. It's not just Nolan and Tarantino.
Digital does look very nice if graded properly. I think we are getting very close to emulating the look of film perfectly.
It seems to me that Storaro is only interested in digital because he's gotten lazy. Wonder Wheel is probably the one of the worst looking movies I've seen in the past few years. Storaro is not inspiring any filmmakers by saying things like "I am tired of numbers." You can't deny that that's just pure laziness. He's just too comfortable with digital. Also, why would he shoot a period piece and not shoot it on film?
