In my experience, Rode is typically more pricey than better audio gear (not that Rode doesn’t make nice stuff). I think filmmakers just tend to be less familiar with audio brands/products.
That aside, I enjoyed the article. You had some nice suggestions in there.
They should! Things like scheduling and budgeting aren’t as sexy as shooting with the latest camera, but I’ve seen way more projects fall apart because they were poorly planned/funded than because the DP messed up some settings.
This really was a great article! The light/camera setup was clearly well planned, and the results look great (judging from the clips on the website). It was also interesting to see just how big a difference a good producer can make.
That’s amazing! It must have been incredibly stressful, especially towards the end. Did Steve go with an A7SII because of the low light? If I had to choose a camera for a 90 minute take, I would definitely be scared to use a small Sony
