Am I the only one who thought Good Time was aggressively mediocre?
The trailer for Uncut Gems looks less exciting than the trailer for Good Time did, and I was not a huge fan of Good Time (despite being extremely excited for it.)
Better to have the pretension of trying to make something new than the comfort of making something safe. Art is inherently hard to talk about because anything beyond technical, tangible details is a bit "woo woo." It's like spirituality: lots of inherent value, yet a high risk of sounding like a douchebag the more you discuss it. Yet, someone has to write an instruction manual for "how to meditate" if anyone is to learn or improve upon the technique.
It sounds like this guy really cares about making something that is both unique and reflective of his vision. I say kudos to him.
