Article Comment – John Cena Apologizes to China

China steals American IP, cheated extensively at the Beijing Olympics, mistreats and sometimes murders millions of its people and may have purposely created a virus that killed millions worldwide.

The only reason the US and other countries kiss China's ass is because of money. That says a lot about the world we live in.

Article Comment – Oscar Ratings Have Hit a Historic Low Because Fewer People Care

So by your logical the overwhelmingly white and male winners are ALL worthy artists and the much smaller number of non-white and non-male winners are ALL unworthy artists.

There's a name for thinking like that and it ends in -ist.

Article Comment – Oscar Ratings Have Hit a Historic Low Because Fewer People Care

LOL! I'm surprised I had to scroll this long before finding the "left Hollywood is too woke" excuse. Considering the trend happened before a certain demographic co-opted the word "woke," I think the answer reason for the decline in Oscar viewership is simply overall changes in viewing habits and the lack of interest in the movies the Academy chooses to recognize. Clearly the Academy and the average American film viewer have completely different tastes.

Article Comment – How Working on a Hollywood Blockbuster Helped Me Make a Proof of Concept

I agree. There's an epidemic of contrived, nonsensical filmmaking going on in the US and it needs to stop. Hollywood keeps making movies with too much focus on CGI and color grading and too little effort spent on compelling characters in interesting situations. Unfortunately, this short made those same mistakes.

Article Comment – Was John Boyega Marginalized in the 'Star Wars' Sequels?

It was probably his performance in Attack the Block that got him hired in the first place. He just happened to be the race for which Disney was rightfully looking.

As others have said, ultimately the problem with the Star Wars sequels is that Disney/Kathleen Kennedy rushed them out and handed each movie to an "auteur" to do as he liked instead of spending the time to create a unified trilogy, like Marvel did with its MCU. Boyega's and Tran's characters were the biggest casualties of this shockingly dumb mistake.

Article Comment – Frankly, Hollywood Doesn't Give a Damn About 'Black Lives Matter'

I understand your point about other non-white groups in the US but let's not turn this situation into the Discrimination Olympics. Black Americans have experienced a particular racist history in our own country that continues, to a certain extent, to this day. Black Americans have not only had to deal with lack of representation but also with consistent, persistent, negative, stereotypical representations that have contributed to the negative perception of all Black people. Native Americans and Asians don't matter less than Blacks, they simply have a different history and fewer numbers than Blacks. And they should be getting their due. As Blacks fight for more representation, the representation for other marginalized groups will grow, too. A rising tide lifts all boats.
