Article Comment – Arri takes the Midnight Train Away from Georgia

While it’s a bummer Arri is leaving ATL I think we should be fair to the Charlotte office and mention how the two office service completely different clients in completely different worlds. Yes the ATL Arri house handled big movies like Avengers and yes the Charlotte Arri House serviced productions in Wilmington (shout out to Dawsons’s Creek and One Tree Hill fans!) the thing that is left out here is that the Charlotte office is mostly a grip and electric rental house doing a TON of work for the broadcast tv and live sports world.

Yes you can rent cameras, lens, and everything else you would need for your film through the Charlotte office, BUT the majority of jobs they handle (at least in my experience with them) are lighting and grip jobs for broadcast tv. The jobs they do for NFL and NASCAR alone are probably enough to justify keeping that office open. It’s not that these jobs were happening in Charlotte specifically but Charlotte is a great location to be based when handling these kinds of jobs over the entire southeast. Also Wilmington is 4 hours away from Charlotte and while the productions happening there were big clients they weren’t the biggest hence why Arri wasn’t any closer.
