Beyond 4k, very strong codecs are as important for heavy VFX. Dynamic range, color space are also as important. We have enough resolution at 4k! Time to move on. Who really care about 8k? I just saw the next Blade Runner 2049 trailer in the theatre and it look totally amazing. It was shot in 3.4K and is to my opinion, looking way better then the Gardians of the galaxy. Time for camera company to concentrate on other part of the image quality. Great HDR would be one of them for exemple. You should check out the link I put. It very interesting.
For those of you who think that beyond 4K is the futur. Please take a look a this great research on resolution from ASC Steve Yedlin.
Just saw the movie. Brilliant work from Denis Villeneuve!
Luke, can we please see the infos that are backing up your claim? Because from all that I read, and seen. Right now, only Arri cameras have a TRUE 14 stops of DR. Here is a link to a very serious tests made by Mailing list cinematography:
(Read the results lower in the page) Red camera seem to have far lower stops in DR then what they are claiming...
So how can it be the only camera that good for HDR if Arri as more of it???
Concerning DI, you'll be also perfectly fine with Arri UHD 4k and beautiful ProRes XQ. And Sony... Yes it all pretty much done in 4k now but 2k still does a great job with a solid codec
It was been proven many time in pass treads on this website that more films and series are shot on Arri products. Here is one link. Check out at the end of the postings:
