Thanks. That’s all helpful info. Much more helpful than anything in this article. I would just mention that the 5D4 also lets you use a SD card. I am not hating on this camera. I came to this article initially because I thought it would be full of helpful info since I would consider buying this camera one day.
(From a former Best Buy salesman) this a best buy salesman level analysis of the camera. You mention 4k but not a single word about the 1.7x crop. You say " However, when you start comparing the Canon EOS R to, say, its Canon 5D mk IV sibling, it blows it out of the water, yet has many of the same selling points." How does it have the same selling points, yet blow it out of the water. Nothing in the list above supports that conclusion. I'm looking at this list and seeing 1 It's Mirrorless, so it's a smaller form factor. 2) It has the same sensor as the 5D4 3) 4k Internal I believe the R uses MP4 compression not the insanely clunky MJPEG from the 5D4. 4) Sure there are times that people will use 120fps at 720p but there are also cameras in this price range that will do 4k 60. 5) C-Log is the big selling point here. The color science is secondary. Clog is a paid upgrade on the 5d4. 6) If you want to talk about RF lenses the lens adapter that lets you drop in filters is really what the big selling point is here. A camera that out of the box (without an adapter) only works with 2 lenses is more of a con than a pro. 7) Competitively priced? It's the second most expensive camera on that list only cheaper than the new Nikon.
Come on No Film School. I expect more out of you than an article that reads like it's pulled from the comments. I'm sure 4K is a deal breaker for some but it's not a camera without a purpose. As a live event shooter I can't think of another camera that 1) is full frame 2) has built in 5 axis IS 3) has the insanely accurate Dual Pixel AF 4) has a swivel touch screen 5) has a battery that gets me through several hours. These 5 features are all way more important to me than 4K and make it an ideal camera for what I do.
"The lens continues the process of filling out the Sony Zeiss stable of T1.4 lenses, alongside the previously released 85mm and 35mm glass. "
Is it T1.4 as well as f/1.4? or is this a T(ypo)
I could have swore this got addressed in a recent firmware update.... But my parents told me not to swear.
16FPS is for Stills. It's not recording audio and looks like it can only do that for 170 frames. It's not made to shoot RAW video.
