Comparing a camera to a paintbrush isn't a valid comparison, it's like comparing a cross country trip in a 67 Beetle to one in a MB S class. They'll both get you to your destination, but it's how much more the Mercedes can do along the way that counts. And saying that "it is the talent behind the lens that matters most, not the camera" is ONLY applicable if everybody is using the same camera with the same limitations.
