Maybe it's useful for people who don't really know what they're doing. But really there is no sense in which this "grant" is really a grant apart from the $1000 cash. As has been pointed out, what you actually get are discounted offers to use services that most filmmakers will easily figure out how to do themselves for free. And nowhere in the application process is this really made clear. Meanwhile services like fiscal sponsorship are widely available, often for less than 5%. I don't believe that From The Heart Productions is any kind of scam, but to have any serious chance in this business you need to be as self-sufficient as possible, especially when it comes to post production, otherwise you will waste huge sums of money very quickly. It'd be better just to charge people $1000 for a course of everything they'll need to know in order to avoid ever having to find money for unnecessary post production services.
