Article Comment – The 'Cool Girl' Trope: Real Life Fantasy, Screenwriting Nightmare

I can understand the desire for every female character to have meaningful roles but I think this article misses the mark in a few ways and is trying too hard to appease a certain demographic, which to me as a writer is the fastest way to kill a good story or character of any sex. The women play certain prop roles just as men do in female dominant movies, and "Cool girls" are quite a realtiy in life and that's not amale invention. It's girls who like masculine things, like men who enjoy feminine things. Ironically this article seems to be from a very cis hetero male viewpoint of what women and men should be in society. Precisely the tropes the LGBTQ community is trying to eliminate. There's lots of tropes to get rid of but I don't this is one of them.
