Why is this such a problem exactly? As an actor I'm getting paid for every day I'm on set. So if I film a new scene every hour, or the same scene for a week, I'm getting paid to do my job. I have a union regulating my hours, breaks, and meals.
As an actor, I'm don't understand everyone's extreme reaction. Every actor on his set is being paid for every day they're working. Abusive? Torture? Jesus. My job is to show up and help the director convey a vision. Personally, I WANT a director to do whatever it takes to get the best out of me, and if I know they won't move on until they get it then I can relax and play. I'd rather do one scene 200 times and know it's perfect then worry my director will let something slide because... I don't even know what the reason is. Whatever dumb thing everyone's complaining about.
