Article Comment – Permitted or Not: Shooting Narratives in Live Environments

Fantastic article! Thank you for this.

I've been traveling back and forth to Africa where I am shooting my first feature film. My film is very much a hybrid-doc and I can easily relate the directors experience of shooting in a live setting and having to just make it work.

My biggest concern when I shoot is safety. I wonder how the directed managed to shoot and around settings that were not the safest. Unfortunately in order for me to tell a story that feels real with a SUPER micro budget, I have to get in the thick of it and that requires going to areas that are known to be sketchy. I am considering hiring regular people as look outs.

Thank you again!
