I feel that if you wait, you'll always be waiting for the right camera. Camera tech and tech in general is now improved constantly. Whether that is a small improvement or some great new thing, unless you are able to rent constantly, you won't be improving if you aren't doing. I think in this industry you can only learn so much from books.
Haters = Critics. Those who can't do critique. I would take them with a grain of salt. Logistics of doing action sports on top of mountains are hard, so yes, getting stunning footage is quite a feat in itself. Flying a helicopter in thin air requires more skill then most people have.
One thing that could be a deciding factor, ergonomics. One thing I really like about the GH4 is ergonomics, all the buttons seem to be just in the right spot, menu is easy to use(comparatively to Red or Sony, at least for me). Pansonic's menu system is very much like the Arri Alexa, easy to use and easy to get through. G7 physically was to small for me, so I didn't like it.
You'll definitely need to get into the shop and mess around with them. Or just rent, they are relatively really cheap to rent.
But Guy gave a great pros and con.
Haha, I know, jeez. People really need reality checks. They want a camera that gives them blow jobs, lights the set by itself, makes actors and crew nail takes in one shot, make vanilla lattes, and win Oscars, etc.
What 90% of the haters really need to learn is how to shoot and actually create content. We creatives are living in an amazing age where companies are competing like crazy to get our business. Just listen to Scorsese and even Robert Rodriguez when they barely had access to decent film-making technology to make their earlier flicks.
Haha, hilarious! Great find on that article. It's awesome reading up how much the industry is evolving. More competition means good things for us!
Oh yeah, I forgot, and my friend here said prices went up to $899 for log upgrades in some other Sony's. I think my point is, $100 ain't nothing for all the other people griping up a paid upgrade.
