I loved Arrival! I could almost visualize the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis while watching the movie. My feeble example is the use of the German word schadenfreude. There is no direct English translation for the word, but in one word it expresses numerous emotions. The speaker may be expressing one or more emotions, and the listener can interpret it as different emotions. But in the end, the intent is the same - to express emotion. Thus, in my feeble example, the languages, both spoken and heard, are circular, just as the folding of space to jump through time. Arrival was thought-provoking, beautiful, and haunting to this science and history buff.
