No, they haven't. Different aesthetics, different applications. Both are great. When the Steadicam came out, it was just as overused as gimbals are now. Both are just another tool to get great camera movement, but they are similar but not the same.
All these people complaining that this costs 10k and then upset that it comes with a fixed EF mount. If you can't drop 10k to get into the RED universe (which isn't the right path for everyone) I doubt you will be dropping $600 a day on a PL lens package.

I can't speak to the 700d because I have never used it, but when I was just starting out I had a D5200 and it was a great first camera. I actually still have it. It is well built, reliable, has great battery life, and solid image quality for that price range. The previous poster is right about the FLAAT picture profile-- it drastically improves DR and it is a great starting point to learn the color grading fundamentals you will use throughout your career when you are eventually grading R3D, S-log, or Log-C footage.
