I'm confused. You put $340+5 (shipping) down and wait a year and take on the risk that the product will not ship at all for a $40 discount on the final retail price. It just doesn't seem like it's worth the risk to me as a buyer for what you're saving. I'd rather wait, see if it works, and then buy one. Heck, if I just took that money and invested it for a year in an index fund I'd only be short 15 bucks (assuming 7%) on the final purchase price, and no risk at all. I guess having remote access included as a service for a year would make this worth it for some people.

I get kickstarter, but I can't see the upside is worth it on this one. Just saying.

I'm not trying to be a hater. I wish the creator best of luck. I just don't get the maths.

TLDR; Basically Panasonic wants your $100 bucks and is going to disable the feature you found a hack to enable. Also, you can't have it yet.

Therefore, it’s important to know that future LUMIX GH4 firmware upgrades, including mobile app upgrade pushes, will disable unlicensed activations of V-Log L. In addition, it’s Panasonic’s service policy to upgrade firmware during warranty claims, thereby eliminating unlicensed features. Thank you again for your continued support of Panasonic and the LUMIX G camera system and innovations yet to come.

NOTE

A new firmware V2.4 will be available starting Sept 17th. Use of the V-Log L workaround associated with firmware Version 2.3 runs the risk of the Zebra Function not working and the Histogram reading improperly.
