Hey Guy, have you used those? I've always been curious about them. I bought a pair of redheads and they were absolutely horrible, in terms of dependability and life cycle. So I kinda made a vow to myself to not spend money on cheap lights again. But I've always been curious about the ones you recommend. Thanks
For cinema, a super 35 sensor is "full frame", for that format. For photography, 35mm is considered full frame for that format. So no conversation is needed. A 50mm on a super 35 format is 50mm. If a conversation was needed, then the lenses would be labeled as an 80mm, even tho the f.o.v would be 50mm, but it's not because it's not an 80mm. I would like to see Roger Dekins ask for a 50mm while shooting on a super 35 cinema camera and the 1ac bring him an 80mm because he was "calculating the f.o.v" for a 35mm photo camera.
NinjaMonkey please make more post like this that are helpful and educational instead of confrontational. Thanks! Now to the OP, it's hard for me to give a flat rate also. I usually deal with artist that want to shoot a music video that'll feature a tiger, when they only have kitty cat money. And I tried the whole "what's your budget" question and they always tend to ignore it or talk around it. I give a rate and usually my rate is "too high", so I have to decide, "if lower my rate and work with them will it be beneficial and possibly land me more work?" Speaking of that, people will tell you that working with them will get you more work; I have yet for that to happen. I get more work because I hustle to get it for myself, or let my previous work speak for itself. Setting a rate too low can have you doing more work than it's worth. Setting a rate too high can have you out of work. Pricing is hard! I'm looking forward to seeing others respond and share their knowledge on the situation.
The cursing doesn't bother me, as I hear a lot of film makers cuss worse than sailors, myself included. But dude, some money is better than no money. 25hrs a week isn't much, and you're basically saying it's taking time away from your networking? But I have to ask, are you networking with the customers you're encountering? Are you online networking during your breaks? And be a realist, is the place where you currently live a place where a film maker can thrive? Guess what a lot of actors and actresses did before they made it to the silver screen...they were waiters and waitresses, working about 25hrs a week and they still found time to go to auditions. You're young, don't let making excuses for why "something isn't working" become part of your character. Good luck with your decision.
After going back and forth with myself and debating whether or not I wanted and/or needed 4k, I bought a c100 mark ii. I absolutely love that camera, especially coming from the dslr world. Some of the key things that won me over with the c100 mark ii is its usable view finder, the size, professional audio inputs, waveform, zebras, file size and over all image quality. I know most of my work will be web-based, so didn't want to deal with the 4k storage and workload. And the camera is already "built up" so I don't need to go out and buy any special rigs. The camera gets out of the way and let you shoot! The 1080p is really clean, and even though it's 4.2.0, it behaves more like 4.2.2 with its flexibility. I used to think ppl were just hyping the camera up, until I bought one...now I understand why it gets its appraisal. Also, just one more thing to point out. Unfortunately, ppl today will see a little camera like the a7 on set and possibly take it for a joke (off of looks alone); but they'll see the c100 and take it more serious.
The redheads that I bought were from some company on eBay. They were Chinese made and they were 3 for $155. I thought ALL redheads were the same, but myself and one of my film making buddies had the exact same experience with them; they burned out within a month, with lite use. I'm very careful with my great as well. Those reds had a great light output, but they got VERY VERY hot and the build quality was awful. I may buy 1 of the came-tv arri knock offs and give it a go!
