I love Herzog's movies and documentaries, I enjoy his rebellious nature and attitude toward life, and how he encourages to make independent productions, but this article doesn't provide any new ideas of his (or maybe Herzog didn't talk about anything interesting, apart from independent financing).
It almost feels like a meeting for fans to see their idealized celebrity, a lot of almost cliches talk about making a journey on foot, and being independent, and you go to an event which cost 1500$ for 3 days in a "conference room of a hotel in Los Angeles, California" (quote from http://www.roguefilmschool.com/seminar.asp).
Yes, it's a reasonable price, for a mainstream event with a famous person, but if you preach something, if you hand select the applicants, make them read some not very well know books, etc etc, and then you ask 1500 for a meeting in a Los Angeles conference room with more than 50 people... it feels all a bit hyped up.
Also, giving a hug, doesn't seem like a very original goal.
I'm not trying to put down the article, just sharing my point of view, good for you for having met Werner Herzog, and getting some motivational words from him, other than that I can't see much else. Maybe you could write a second article, describing in more depths what went on.
