It took three decades since his very first nomination (for Best Original Screenplay for Do the Right Thing), but Spike Lee has finally netted a competitive Academy Award, Best Adapted Screenplay specifically, for BlackKklansman.

Yes, Lee had already received a non-competitive Oscar from the Academy in 2016 as a kind of lifetime achievement prize, but last night's win represented the first win for Lee going up against fellow nominees. The film also represented the first time Lee had been nominated in the Directing category, a category that, had he had won, would've welcomed him as the first African-American winner.

While Lee's speech last night was impassioned and heartfelt, it may have been briefer than many were expecting (such are the restrictions of live television), and so we're including below the original speech, the backstage Thank You cam appreciatory remarks, and the press conference that immediately followed along with his three fellow co-writers Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, and Kevin Willmott.

Congrats Spike!
