Another day, another -70 points
I'm glad to see that the site's moderators have responded to an earlier question about excessive spamming and tag abuse. Apparently they are going to get on that Real Soon Now.
I commented in that thread that another problem on this site is the lack of transparency when it comes to reputation, specifically down-votes. I can understand that one doesn't want to create a system whereby members who are hostile to one another can stalk each others actions and respond to a downvote (which costs the downvoter only one point and the one being downvoted 10 points) with two more downvotes of their own. However, I think it is high time the editorial people look at who on these boards are constantly and consistently downvoting either everybody who responds to a particular topic (i.e., RED cameras vs. BMCC) or downvoting a single person (regardless of the subject of their post). If somebody really deserves to lose 100 points a day for their bad posts, I would hope that the moderators could make it clear to them (me?) what's wrong. Right now I have absolutely no idea where the real problem lies, but clearly there is a problem.
I sincerely believe that there are a few bad actors who are just sniping because they haven't grown up and they know they are not being watched. It would be great if the editorial staff could create some queries that would identify such bad behavior and then take appropriate action.
