My first video ssay "Deconstructing Nightcrawler"
Just (7 hours ago) I finished my first video esssay, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KShbjZMFhxk, analysing Dan Gilroy's "Nightcrawler". I couldn't get the film out of my head and decided to follow my instinct.
As film is my medium, I felt that a video essay was the logical choice. I concentrated on the visual language in the film, as it really stood out to me and hadn't been covered in particular yet. I don't have any real goal with my youtube channel, but had way more fun than I ever expected and am defintiely producing more essays like this. In comparison to the short films I usually produce, a video essay like this is can be started and finished withing 10 days or less.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the essay and my remarks about the visual language. I feel "Nightcrawler" is underrated in the sense that people mostly talk about Gyllenhall, who definitely deserves it, but from a filmmaking perspective, this film to me, does everything very masterfully.
Interested to hear your thoughts,
