Talent Source - and things like it

This is half a discussion on websites like Talent Source and half a "please vote for me"

So we'll get the shameless plug out the way please vote for me a fellow No Film Schooler:

My first project shot on the Black Magic Pocket Camera, was a bit of fun etc. etc.

As for the discussion:
What is NFS thoughts on big companies asking "up and coming" film makers and artists to donate their time and effort for free?

I think for the most part it's great, provides opportunities for those who may be seeking a break. Understandably there's a certain stigma with the "creative working for free" argument. But I think the positives by far out way the negatives.

Ps please vote!

I hadn't heard of Talent House before this post. It looks interesting. The only other sites I know of like that are Tongal and Poptent.

I'm slightly torn on how I feel about those sites. It can definitely be a great opportunity if your project wins anything. But, there are so many people going for the same thing, that I think even if your video is great it can go unseen due to the flood of entries they get. At that point, you're stuck in the same place you were before you started but you've just spent money on a production with zero rewards other than maybe a few decent looking shots for your demo reel.

If you win one of these "contests" it's great. But it seems like a big challenge.
