What are your tips on hiring film editors?
1. Review their reels
2. Review a few of their complete works
3. Listen to how they talk about their work (what they criticize, whom they criticize, and how)
4. Do they understand your vision, your vocabulary? Do they respond to you in ways that reinforce and complement what is most important to you?

Watch them acting without knowing them that you watch (with other words: watch their previous films, projects and/or go to the theatre).
Make a call sheet so the actors know what you expect from them in therms of their skills.
Do castings with them if possible.
