Two videos for critique

First is a highlight video for a national competitive shotgun match shot on an Canon XF100.

Second is a short about competitive pistol shooting, did this one just to make something and practice, shot on a Canon 60D. Not much of a narrative on this, if you play the game you understand, really made for the sport's audience.

Go ahead and tear these apart. Also, wouldn't mind some suggestions on cameras. I've been looking into an A7s, but maybe the rolling shutter won't do me any favors there. I do like the shallower depth of field I can get with my 60D, something I can't really get with the XF100.

Thanks

The first one have a good exposure and shoots but is missing on the time the images with the music.

The second The same. Good quality of the images but not retype.

Greetings. ;D

Nice videos.

The XF100 and 60D is a good combination of cameras. I wouldn't upgrade them anytime soon. I don't think the a7s would justify an upgrade unless you specifically need it for some reason.

Thanks, I think the only thing that attracts me to the A7s is the low-light capabilities which is nice for the sports stuff where lighting is inconsistent and the fact that it's hard to get shallow depth of field with the XF100. Comments like yours help stay off the GAD cliff, and that's good.

I've only got two lenses with the 60D, a Tamron 18-200 and a Canon 35mm f/2. What else should I be looking at for glass?

Thanks

I only use two lenses myself with the 60D. The 18-55mm kit lens and the 50mm f/1.8. The 18-55 when lit properly is sharp enough. The 50mm is great.

There's a 40mm f/2.8 STM. It's a very good lens. Sharp and clear. I think you have it covered with the lenses you have.

Pretty good, the music may be covering up any audio problems; we can't tell so if it is then it's worked. The APNA leak detector video I made for my inventor friend Tony had music added to cover over the road noise from outside but he didn't like it so I have made a version without it.

Did you have any:

"Hey dude, where's your shotgun?"
"It's attached to my camera"

(Note to all: if we look at a fellow NFS'er video let's always give it a thumbs up. At least there are no cats in them.)

The music is most certainly covering up audio problems. The 60D video audio was captured using the onboard mic and a lav on the shooter, so not good but just need to hear the bangs nothing else really is essential.

I was surprised how many of the shotgunners new that there was a dead cat on my camera.

Thanks for the comment.

I really liked both of these, coming from a hunting and fishing background I am familiar with shooting and reloading.

They were well done and I agree with some of what was said above on the shooting competition video, I think it may have felt better to remove some of the talking audio all together and just let the sound track be what covers that but then leave in some of the shots.

As far as the reloading video the only thing I can give would be to have it move a long a little quicker. I felt like opening the first box would have been better as a stop motion to make it move a little quicker. You started doing that later in the video but I think it could have worked all the way through. And in general some of the cuts could have been a few frames faster to up the pacing and i think it would have made holding on the shooter after the shot a little more impactful if that makes sense.

All that to say they are really good so not being negative at all just giving my opinion, I wish I could create something that I felt looked that good.
