What is happening with the NFS pointsystem? Lost 800 points in 1 week?

There are more important point to score in life, but since the NFS point system is obviously meant as encouragement to be active and add to the community, how come my score dropped 800 points in 1 week?
Is the system now really falling apart?
And are you experiencing similar things?
Or are my posts and reactions so bad you all wish I was dead? ;-)

The NFS point system involves a complex calculation based on the number of posts you make, your height, the calorie intake of your neighbour's pet and the orbital speed of Neptune.

This figure is then multiplied by the current number of requests for an 8K GH6 in any active threads.

Hope that clears things up.

That explains it. I'll talk to the neighbours. LOL!

I have been experiencing similar things...for some time. Weeks to build up a few hundred points, then days to lose it. Lather, rinse, and repeat.

I have sent a note to the editors, with no response. I was very much hoping that NFS would follow through on the promises they made last year about finally providing some real oversight. But it seems this has not happened.

n.b. I used "MODERATION" as a tag when I complained about this 8 months ago.

I remember you wrote that and it is indeed what I've been seeing for a while as well. I didn't mind that much, but this last week was quite bizarre. It really made me wonder: do I have a dozen of haters or is something just going wrong?

Well, since last night the thread lost a vote, as did every prior comment. So clearly at least one person (or robot) disagrees very much that something is wrong.

Well, I re-read the NFS giudelines ( http://nofilmschool.com/guidelines ), specifically the portions near the end dealing with the NFS score. They explain what raises & lowers scores, biggest point loser is -75 if your comment receives 10 downvotes or is altered by a moderator. So if your score matters to you, don't say anything too controversial ;-)

I know: I read it as well.
That means I needed at least 10 comments with 10 downvotes. Or have at least 10 comments moderated. (Or a mix between those two.)
If I am being moderated (haven't noticed yet), I'd like to get a notification with a motivation: otherwise I'll never learn.
If I get that many downvotes: why?
If so many people disagree, there must be someone who has the guts to write why (s)he disagrees. I'm all for a polite exchange of ideas, opinions and experiences.

As an experiment, I up-voted every comment in this string and, my score went up immediately, then yesterday, it went down by 50%. Now it sits in the realm of comedy. I'm ok with that.

You might notice that Ragüel Cremades and David Peterson are often in the "Top Members This Week" list, but they haven't posted to the boards in 2 years...

Having currently 308.

Now you've got 301, while I upvoted your reply.
Well, as long this doesn't happen to our bankaccounts, we'll be fine ;-)

Well I haven't been active for awhile and my score was around 1300 and ever since I started "login in" and being active my score went down under 900 recently.
So after you up your score just don't login.

Seriously? That is really no good system!

@NFS
Members here at NFS share their time to give advises or share their knowledge with others. Yes, there is also different opinions from time to time. But that it how a community works.
With your current NFS scoring, you punish even good members for their inactivity. You should change this system.

Nevertheless, I don’t care this scoring because you obviously give no real meaning to this. If someone votes down... he lose points, if somone is just inactive... he loses points as well. WTF.

Back on 303.

I am surprised that anyone cares? What benefit does it have that has any meaning at all? Your post has value to me because it contains your opinion, I haven't a clue how it works or means, and I shall remain clueless since I have no interest in the points system at all.

It merely just surprises me.
My thought: something is broken OR it's me.
Looks more and more like the system is broken, so I don't have to start binge drinking and wallow in self doubt ;-)

As Much as it doesn't affect the price of rice... it would be cool to see some consistency with the scoring or just get rid of it. i'm sure i'm about to lose some points for saying that

Maybe the NFS score is about how stupid the NFS score is.
The less the stupider. It actually has no logic.

Ok, I managed to increase the NFS score from former 301 up to 498 with a couple of nonsense posts here. This logic makes no sense.

Just thought about the website name: NO film school.
So every post about film has a negative effect on the score. As long as you keep the post nonsense you are safe! 600!

How does one get points anyway? Is it just a matter of people liking your posts?

My personal experience for losing points:
Everytime I criticize quite rightly a post made by a NFS team, I lose a lot of points. Maybe they have some "shut the f*** up rating button" to punish usual users. I don't know.

To collect points, just see what I did... I wrote nonsense and I increased points from 300 to over 700 in a few days.

Mine has always fluctuated up and down, I think most peoples do -

it doesn't necessarily signify anything, don't worry about your points, just focus on interaction and learning.
