Best 4K Recorder for Gh4?

Hi all,

I just got the VLOG update for my Panasonic GH4 and am looking to invest in a 4K recorder. The two I am looking at right now are the Atomos Ninja Assassin and the Video Devices PIX-E5H. They seem to be very close in price and features.

I have not been able to find a comparison of the two recorders online (closest I've found is a Shogun vs. PIX-E5) and recent reviews of the PIX-E5H are almost non-existent.

Do any of you guys who own these devices have an opinion on the pros and cons of each? Any other recorders I should be considering? Any advice would be very helpful!

Thanks!

They are both too new for reviews, but personally I would go for the Video Devices recorder because it has a metal case and there is a very good professional audio accessory that mates with this unit. ( Video Devices is made by Sound Devices, who have top notch reputation for making professional audio gear )

I am sure that either unit would produce great results with your camera.

I really like the scopes (focus, waveform, vectorscope, etc) of the Atomos SHOGUN, which I understand are all part of the Ninja Assassin product. I haven't used PIX, but very happy with Atomos, who also update their software on a very regular basis.

Thanks, guys. Sounds like either one would be great. I might just have to rent them and see which I prefer.

Thanks, Jerry. What are some things you prefer about the pix?
