Getting started and practice

For a whole now, I knew I wanted to be a filmmaker. At first, I wasn't making any progress because I said I needed equipment. Asking myself what I could do, I began writing screenplays. I've wrote two. Now, I've bought myself a canon rebel t3i. I don't use it much because 1)I don't have a computer or editing software to edit anything I shoot and 2) I have yet to buy an external mic. All my extra money has been going to more urgent stuff. I'm looking for a better or even a second job to invest in some basics to get me started (an external mic, desktop, editing software, memory card, etc). But in the meantime, is there anything else I can do to practice filmmaking that I'm unaware of or am not considering? I don't wanna be making any excuses so I had to ask. I'm aware that I can rent or even borrow equipment but I feel like just getting my own, especially since I'm not in school at the moment would make the most sense
