Slow Motion "Windowed"

Hi guys - I would like to tap your knowledge again.

Basically been googling around for 30 mins or so and haven't found anything that really helps -

Why on some cameras, (such as A7S, Ursa Mini to name 2) when shooting at higher frame rates does it go to windowed mode/crop in.

I'm aware the A7S cannot shoot full HD 120FPS etc. However would love to know simply why.

Any articles you can link me too or just what you know would be of great help, thank you.

It's either the camera's sensor or the camera's image-processor that can't handle the amount of data required to shoot high frame rates with the full sensor, so it processes a smaller cropped section to reduce the amount of data that has to be processed.

Sometimes this is also done to avoid overheating your camera when it's trying to process the maximum amount of image data.
