Starting a film production company

I want to start a Film Production Company in the future and I am looking for resources that will help me get an idea of how starting one works. I have asked this question before but seem to only get replies such as “start asking around, someone knows someone that knows someone” Etc. I’m just curious to know more about actually creating a sustainable business model, building my network and branding myself first…..

Any answers are helpful. Thankyou

Start doing film and video work. Once you can't handle the workload on your own, raise your prices until you can afford to hire help. Once you have enough help and work coming in, rent a space for your business. Once your business has a bunch of money and projects that need specific things, build a facility. Boom. Now you're a major motion picture company.

Feel free to do those steps in whatever order makes the most sense. A "film production company" is pretty vague. It could be a single camera operator or it could be a huge corporation.

Thats great advice. I started my wedding video business around that same method and while my business isn't fully matured the growth is significant from 5 years ago.

Some good advice that was given to me years ago is "If you're good at something; don't do it for free."

I'm working on a book about this called "Enterpreneurship for Filmmakers," email me and I'll send you a draft when it's done in a few months I'm looking for early reader feedback.

Hi Charles, may I also have a copy of this? I would definitely send feedback to you after I read it! Thanks
