Jenni Olson
Jenni Olson is a San Francisco-based filmmaker whose unique filmmaking style incorporates stunning 16mm urban landscapes and discursive personal voiceover essays. Her award-winning feature THE ROYAL ROAD (an official selection of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival) explores the Spanish colonization of California and the Mexican American War while reflecting on nostalgia, butch identity, unavailable women and Alfred Hitchcock's VERTIGO — all against a backdrop of stunning 16mm California landscapes and featuring a voiceover cameo by Tony Kushner. Her 2005 film THE JOY OF LIFE is a feature length experimental investigation of the history of suicide and the Golden Gate Bridge alongside intimate reflections on butch identity and desire. She is also one of the world's leading experts on LGBT film history, one of the co-founders of PlanetOut.com a noted film archivist, advisor, critic and writer.
