Canon and RED Get Along Wonderfully in Tom Lowe's Stunning 'TimeScapes'

Despite going head-to-head with dueling camera announcements, shooters often use Canon and RED cameras side-by-side. It's not an either-or thing, and exhibit A of this is Tom Lowe's new timelapse-heavy portrait of the American Southwest, TimeScapes. Shot and edited at 4K, here's the "low resolution" Vimeo clip, which is stunning nonetheless:

Tom used a RED EPIC and a number of Canon still cameras in RAW mode. You can pre-order the Blu-ray below; a 4K version of the trailer is also available for download.

Remember that IMAX is just a couple of Christie 2K DLP Projectors, while there are 4K DLP or 4K Sony SXRD installed in many theaters providing 4 times the IMAX resolution ;-)

Spectacular work. I'm interested to see how he monetizes this project. Alining with a big box store hungry to sell big screens seems like a no brainer.

I'm glad I help finance Tom's film. Can't wait to see it.

Wow, I'd seen pieces by this guy before, but now it seems like he's finding a more narrative edge; reminds of Baraka a little, which was a stunning 'observation' doc. Can't wait to see the final product!
