Vimeo and Cinelan to Award $200k in Prizes for Short Docs

In conjunction with General Electric and Cinelan, Vimeo has launched a new short documentary series entitled Focus Forward, and they're opening the series up for submissions. There's a $100k Grand Prize at stake -- along with a premiere at next year's Sundance -- as well as an additional $100k in prizes. The details:

If you’re a filmmaker with an idea for a three-minute nonfiction film around the theme of invention and innovation, then it’s time to get to work! We’re giving away $200,000 in cash prizes to the top five entries in our Focus Forward Filmmaker Challenge, with $100,000 going to the Grand Prize Winner. (Yes, you read that right.) Submissions open in mid April. Winners will be announced at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Catch all five existing shorts here on Vimeo (I've previously shared one), and head on over for the full rules and regulations. Submissions don't open until April, so you've got plenty of time to brainstorm ideas!

The films that they already have are unbelievably good. Good luck competing with that calibre of film maker.

@AmazingMo, the films already published are not in competition. The filmmaker challenge is different from the 30 Focus Forward films currently being premiered. Good luck to all! Entries are due by Aug 23rd!
