RigWheels Unveils RigPlate and RigMount Solutions to Create DIY Dolly Systems
Pardon me as I step out of my quiet NFS screenwriter corner for a moment and don the NFS camera equipment hat (apparently, the virtual NFS offices are empty today with everyone else busy working on their own projects or traveling. Kinda eerily quiet). With that out of the way, here at NFS, we've recently posted a wide array of DIY dolly solutions, from the one already in your garage to sliders falling from outer space. The folks over at RigWheels have now expanded their product line to augment your DIY dolly systems. The new offerings from RigWheels not only make their slider wheels easier to use but also make cameras easier to mount on a variety of surfaces.
Here is what's new at RigWheels:
Previously known as a DIY only tool, RigWheels new assortment offers complete flexibility in allowing you to scale your solution from DIY to complete system. The key benefit to this new system is in how the various parts can be interchanged and configured into different types of dollies, sliders, and mounts. One of the most interesting and original items in the line is the RigMount, a high-powered rare-earth magnet with surprising strength in mounting applications for video as well as still photography. RigWheels has managed to turn a few simple, well thought out parts into a very versatile and capable system at an affordable price.
Check out the video below for a more detailed introduction to RigWheels' new products and their uses:
I'm certainly no camera guy, but I am a filmmaker, and I can appreciate the versatility and the speed advantages of the RigPlate as demonstrated in the video. Most RigWheels users obviously already have designed and built their own plates, but the durability and simplicity of the RigPlate in combination with its versatility should encourage current RigWheels' customers to consider upgrading their DIY slider systems. The suction cup mounts and, moreover, the magnetic mounts are certainly attractive options when time is of the essence on a shoot (when is time not of the essence on a shoot?) and a moving vehicle shot is on the schedule.
The second video demonstrates the RigMount magnetic camera mounts in action, essentially making camera placement on a moving vehicle quick, easy and stable:

Now let me go back to the corner and put my screenwriting hat back on, thank you very much.
