Do We Write Endings In Our Beginnings? Season One and Eight of GoT

Game of Thrones has always been a deep show. It seems like everything happening in the modern era on the show has been influenced by things in the show's past. I've written about The Long Night, but it seems like a more recent history will matter in Season Eight of the show.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Arya Stark, aka Maisie Williams, said that Season One will matter greatly to the epic shows finale.

“After reading the scripts I went back and watched season one again because so much of it refers back to that season,” Williams said. “There are so many scenes that will look similar. And also I watched just to remind myself of the arc I’ve taken already. I wanted Arya to go full circle and try for some kind of normalcy like when she was younger.”

We've gone on an insane trip with Arya since the beginning. She's seen her father beheaded, her friends slain, made friends with the Hound, enemies with anyone in her way, and seems to be serving the faceless god now. It's clear that Maisie Williams loves this role, and takes a lot of the character's history on personally. But it's exciting to know the writers will be bringing this journey full circle.

Especially since it's hard not to fantasize about her cutting off Cersei's head as revenge for Ned.

Now, in the show's final season, Williams went on to say, “This year it’s like she has a dual personality — there are so many emotions and memories that come flooding back when you’re with your family and the things that you fight for become very different, yet she’s also remaining on this path to try and kill Cersei and remembering her list and getting closer to that. So there’s this split with Arya between trying to be who she wants to be — getting back to the naïveté and innocence with her family — and unfinished business.”

Could that business be offing Cersei? Or will it be eating more of Hogpie's...pies.

There are lots of theories out there, like the idea that Syrio Forel may return to tell Arya how proud he is and to fight by her side. But there's a better chance we'll see Jaqen H'ghar confronting Arya. As we've seen, the Starks are still very much alive and ready to rule. So, as we take bets to figure out who will be on the Iron Throne, Arya will need to solidify her place next to her family, or as a warrior out in the battlefield.

Season 8 is shaping up to be one of the wildest on television. Early prognosticators are assuming that upwards of 10-20 million may tune in for each episode, and we know almost all of them are written at movie length. It's going to be a blast. How excited are you for Season 8 of Game of Thrones?
