How 'The Terminator' and 'T2: Judgment Day' create a unifying theme

In an extensive video, 'rantandbollox' creates a new way of looking at the first two Terminator movies as one complete story driven by how John Connor truly affects the future.

The essay covers both of the movies in depth and then combines them, and if you really want a good look at how the parallels in the two films can tell a deeper story its got everything in there.

Looking at it I wondered if there was also the idea that Skynet is even suicidal. When you consider that it is losing the war in the future, maybe it wasn't going back to kill John so that it would survive but so that it could never be born and be saved from the horrors it had to create/endure?

Anyway, there's a lot to unpack in the video if you watch and I think its helpful for directors and writers to see some quality filmmaking. The video on 'The Dark Knight' and its themes is also long and fairly well done.
