I know camera gear isn't everything but...

I WANT to upgrade my camera but don't know if I NEED to.
Ive had the a Nikon D3300 w/ 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 and Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 lenses. Ive had this for about 1.5 years. I do know that when I upgrade gear I will be switching to Canon.
The reason to switching to Canon is because they are slightly cheaper, heard that they are better with video, tilt screen, and more options with lenses.
But when should I know to switch to another camera?
Im starting to not liking the quality of video/pictures on my camera so should I upgrade then or just stick with what I have???

Try renting using a site like borrowlenses or lensprotogo. Spend a weekend with a camera you are thinking of getting and it'll help you know if it's worth or not. For me, I have a 5d mkiii which works fine for most the stuff I do, but if I want to shoot on something else for a project, I'll just rent.

Yes, definitely rent before switching, because you might find that you don't like the image from a low-cost Canon camera any more than your Nikon D3300.
