When the first aerial cinematography drones were released, videographers had few options for lenses or shooting formats. However, as drone technology has rapidly evolved over the years, that is obviously no longer the case.

Still, while there’s a lot more variety these days, it’s encouraging to see that there are still new lens formats and types which haven’t been added to different drone and gimbal cameras. DJI has announced that they are going to release their first medium telephoto DL mount lens.

The new DL 75mm Telephoto Lens will work great for gimbal cameras and drones and offer some beautiful cinematography capabilities with a total aperture range from f/1.8 to f/22. Let’s take a look at this new DL 75mm lens and why it might be right for you.

Introducing the DJI 75mm f/1.8 Telephoto Lens

Ideally designed to be used with DJI gimbal cameras like the Zenmuse X9-8K and X9-8K Air, this new DL mount 75mm f/1.8 Telephoto Lens from DJI is a medium telephoto lens which is capable of—and really built to—shoot 8K video.

The lens itself has a total aperture range of f/1.8 to f/22 for a variety of lighting conditions. High lens sharpness and minimal chromatic aberration ensure natural image reproduction with rich details. A 55mm filter thread allows you to add compatible filters and customize your camera's visuals.

The lens also includes pan and tilt axis counterweights to make balancing the lens on your gimbal camera a breeze. Other included accessories are a balancing ring and lens protector as well.
