NFS Readers: What Do You Want Us to Ask at NAB 2019?

Got an NAB question keeping you up at night? Let us know and we will try to get you an answer.

It’s my first NAB. From upstart entrepreneurs with prototypes in a backpack, to massive booths of intimidating industry pillars, this show has a lot going on at once! It's easy to miss stuff.

What do you need to know? What have we missed? What’s the one thing you are dying to find out about the most? If you have a question that you’d love to know the answer to, let us know in the comments and we will do our best to go ask it on the show floor.

We’re inspired by a reader who emailed us with an NAB question request — he’s buying new lighting gear for an upcoming project, and let’s just say he needs to know if he should pull the trigger on a purchase now or wait for the update. That made the team think that we should reach out to readers with an open call: tell us what you need to know most, and we will use our best resources to find out.

  • Is there a new piece of tech debuting at NAB that you want to see?
  • Is there a new function or feature on something you want to hear more about?
  • Is there an update you are waiting on from a certain company?
  • What piece of tech are you hoping someone has invented?

Add your question in the comments and we'll check periodically. And we’ll scour the show to find answers between now and when the show closes Thursday.

Maybe we find you an answer, maybe we don’t. But it doesn’t hurt to ask!

I'd love more info on atomos's new SDI module for the Ninja V. Specifically how does it interface with Sony's Fs5? I've heard else where that it won't record raw or pro-res raw but I'm a little confused about whether or not it will record standard pro-res. If it doesn't then it would be nice to know which cameras are compatible with it so users know whether or not its a relevant order.

I'd love to ask some camera manufacturers about this: Everyone seems to be in this big race to 6k/8k sensors. And full frame (35mm) sensors are getting more and more popular.
But I just want a 4k full frame camera that can shoot high frame rates (120 would be nice, 240 would be great) WITHOUT CROPPING! Surely all this processing power that is being used to achieve these crazy resolutions (that barely any of us mortals can deal with), can be directed towards achieving 120fps at 35mm: NO CROP. Or do we just wait for the A7siii to come out...?

I'd love to hear more about Deity's new products, (the studio mic, S-MIC 2S, and the connect) and does Aputure have anything other than the 300d II? Also, it would be interesting to see a BTS of your interview setup.
Thanks for asking!

Could you ask fuji if they are planning on releasing a proper cinema camera?

Can you find some new gimbal options for larger cameras? I find it hard to believe that MOVI and DJI are the only options. People are making single handle gimbals work with heavier payloads, so the motors are capable, the form factor just hasn't been addressed. There has to be someone at NAB with a lighter solution that is built to carry a larger camera.

Thanks y'all for sending over your questions! If you've been watching our video coverage, you've probably seen we got answers for some of you on some of the specifics for gear. (Deity, Aputure, FilmicPro, etc.) If you asked a more involved and/or specific question, we found a few answers that we'll reach out with shortly. A few of you (Paul!) had really good questions that we did NOT find an answer to at NAB. But we are right there with you on that quest, and will be dedicating coverage to the search for, say, the best 4K full frame/no crop cameras that maybe, just maybe can shoot 120fps and beyond...
