Wait, the Snyder Cut Reshoots Cost How Much!?

I thought the Snyder Cut was just going to be an assembly...why are they doing reshoots?

People online have been yelling about the Snyder Cut since the original Justice League entered theaters. they felt cheated out of a movie we were told was there. One that was left on the cutting room floor. Even up until last month, when we saw the trailer at Comic-Con, the idea was this cut was being edited.

But now the entire Justice League cast, minus Henry Cavill, has gathered for reshoots that, accord to The Wrap, is costing around 70 million additional dollars.

That's a hefty price tag for a movie debuting on HBO Max that was already shot and released in theaters.

Initial reporting said that no additional filming would occur and new material would largely consist of special effects work, but that clearly has changed.

This is also happening amidst claims from Ray Fisher that Joss Whedon was engaged in abuse during his Snyder reshoots for the initial movie. Fisher also claimed that executives Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, who both have since left the studio, enabled Whedon’s behavior.

There are many wrinkles in this story and complications.

So, why spend $70 million?

Zack Snyder said in July that his version of the 2017 film will contain nothing from Whedon’s reshoots. So, they have to fill those story beats with something.

Aside from wanting to please fans, the movie was an overall disappointment at the box office. I think the hope is that it can redeem itself by drawing a ton of new subscribers. There's also the theory that recutting this movie may have contractually been seen as a sequeleven if it technically is not one. So, if you have to pay actors their sequel fees, you might as well use them to get the movie you want.

We probably won't know anything concrete, but it will be interesting to watch this play out and to see the new scenes.

I dont understand how such a mediocre name as snyder still get thrown around like it's a good thing.

the answer is that snyder has a huge, deeply loyal, fanbase and this film isn't for the masses, it's an apology to snyder, and his love letter to his fans.

snyder makes money. whether you personally like his stylism or storytelling is your preference, but to deny how loud and loyal his cohort of fans are seems ignorant at this point.

even people who hate him are going to watch this movie-- just to trash it. but as long as att gets their streaming number from you, snyder has won the day.

I don't understand why a talentless hack like yourself would know any better.

Despite the fact that the amount is really very impressive, but a large number of Snyder's fans allow him to make such decisions and know in advance that these costs will pay off.

trick question: there are no reshoots, only additional photography. which is only lasting a week or so.

the majority of the money is going to the immense cgi overhaul, but i'm sure getting gadot cavill and affleck back in for a week isn't cheap, even if it's just a week.

it's appalling that you're making this single week of additional photography seem like an extensive reshoot.

I remember watching the Dawn of the Dead remake and thinking the guy would become huge. I just wished he'd have gone on to focus on storytelling as much as over stylising and slow motion...

He hasn't really done slo-mo porn since watchmen. Man of Steel barely has any, if at all.
Batman V Superman, aside from the introduction and a few minor moments-- no more than any other director, really.
He needs to find a writer who makes him look good. I wouldn't count BvS, tho. Too many cooks in the kitchen made it what it was.
I do blame him for sucker Punch. He should not write his own movie like most good directors.
