Some exciting news for our friends up North: Kickstarter is coming to Canada. The crowdfunding giant's last expansion was into the UK, and we wondered where they'd go next -- and now we know. Kickstarter broke the news on Twitter this morning, saying that they will be open to Canada-based  projects sometime this summer. For all of our Canadian indie filmmakers and creatives, as well as the rest of us who are excited to see the great projects and films that are going to be made as a result of this, hit the jump for more info.

When Kickstarter tweeted their big announcement this morning, their fans' response was a warm one. And if seeing that tweet wasn't exciting enough, imagine what seeing the launch page for Kickstarter Canada is like: one page, no links or tabs save for a place to enter your email -- just a simple shallow-focused backdrop of a computer and someone working in the background with the words Canada. Finally. -- and then, a man enters with a steaming white coffee mug with a big red maple leaf on it. Brilliant.

This should help Canadian creatives, as well as others worldwide, who have known the frustration of having to jump through hoops in order to use this crowdsourcing option. Despite the fact that Kickstarter has been slow to branch out internationally, perhaps this is a sign that they're ready for more speedy expansions in the future.
