Blank_page-224x179@johnaugust's web site lives up to its tagline: "a ton of useful information about screenwriting." August (Go, Big Fish) is always answering questions from (aspiring) screenwriters, and his latest post on "writing from theme" is great food for thought. Some writers believe in writing from theme wholeheartedly, others discount it entirely; definitely worth a read. An observation I found interesting: "one reason movies with multiple writers often feel disjointed is because the writers aren’t working from the same DNA." And from the comments: "Without a theme, your script is just a bunch of stuff that happens."

Once I've got, you know, actual films out there, I hope this site will be as helpful for independent and guerilla filmmakers as his is for screenwriters.
